Saber Legend

This is the Star Wars Fan Film that I have been working on with a colleague of mine Kyle Drew for the past year just on my spare time. Kyle was the brains behind the operation, having scripted, filmed, and starred in the project. I was responsible for doing all of the 3D environments and backgrounds as well as putting the cameras into each shot. The film is not 100% complete yet but it should be done by the end of the year.

We just got back from attending the Toronto Fan Expo where he had a booth and also were given the chance to show a preview of our film to a few hundred people. The reception was good although we aren't professional presenters by any means haha. Anyways check out the website which will have updates whenever they are available.

Expect to see the short film on youtube by the end of the year!

New Stuff on the Horizon

What's up! I've been spending alot of time recently on my band, recording a new demo, creating the artwork for our myspace and writing the code...

If anyone likes some good heavy music please check out my band and the new myspace design I created. You can check it out here:
A Fallen Hero's Myspace

I've also been working diligently on the 'Star Wars' Project for a colleague of mine. We are nearing completion of the project, having been working on it for a good 7 months or so. I will post some screenshots once I get the okay to do so.

We've also recieved some good news about the Star Wars film. It will be shown at this year's Toronto Fan Expo!

Check back soon for more updates and a link to the finished film!

Update Time

Well it's been awhile since I've posted anything up... this will actually be the second time posting hahaha, so I guess I should probably use this blog. I've been working on multiple projects, both big and small. I've done a bit of moving around so that took me out of commission for awhile. From my last post to now I've moved across 4 provinces and back, and finally here in London to start fresh.

I've been working and learning alot of new stuff and trying to stay up to date on all my skills. I felt it was time to buckle down and actually learn some html and web skills. With the help of one of my friends in the Multi-Media Design program I finished up my first portfolio website. The portfolio site can be found here... please be gentle... it's my first site haha. Theres alot of work on there that I've yet to upload onto the blog so check it out!

I've also been brushing up on my Photoshop skills, doing some more painting. I found a really awesome program that helps to get a really clean line when using your tablet in Photoshop. I've been searching for months to find some kind of 'Lazy Mouse effect (found in ZBrush) for Photoshop and I've finally found an independent programmer who made a nifty little program. It's called LazyNezumi and the website can be found here. It makes me actually look like an artist of some kind lol.

This is the most recent work I've done in Photoshop, finishing it up yesterday. Having recently reviving my band AFallenHero, I've made some new designs for t-shirts. This is my first t-shirt design attempt for my band.

I've also finished up the Terran Space Marine pic that I was working on earlier. This was done before I discovered LazyNezumi so you can see a difference in the linework.

Along with the digital painting, I've been trying to upgrade my graphic design hand by designing and doing up shows for concerts in the area. I've been doing this for a friend who puts on the shows. I've been proud to do these flyers for bigger bands that I know and love myself... bands like Within the Ruins and Ion Dissonance. Here's a few samples of the flyers I've been doing.

Obviously with a shirt design there has to be a band to back it up. Since the band has started up again we've made some line-up changes, wrote all new songs, revamped our image, played some shows and are currently recording a new demo. I revamped the myspace and I'm still working on it and trying to learn the code. You can check AFALLENHERO on myspace here.

Staying in touch with 3D has also been a priority for me, as I have been helping a friend work on an independent film project. I can't say alot about it but I can still show off some of the work I've been doing for it. I'm responsible for all of the 3D environments and some 3D effects for the film. It's pretty easy to figure out what it's about by looking at the pics. This is all basically fresh out of the concept stage so there has been no texturing or detailing done, it's just basic shaders and lighting.

Lastly I've finally taught myself how to use Zbrush to try and get with the times by creating high poly, high detail, scultped 3d models. I tried to follow the video game pipeline by making a low poly mesh and using high poly normal maps to get a great look with fast render and performance.

This is my 3D character I created and detailed in Zbrush.

I devoted a page to him on my portfolio website. You can check it out here.

Anyways that's all for now. Check back for some more updates!

My First Post!

Namaste! (if you don't watch Lost... Hello!) Welcome to my Art and Animation Blog. I'll be posting some of my stuff up over the next while and eventually I would like to do up some tutorials about some of the cool things I've learned while taking the Tradigital Animation course at St.Clair College in Windsor, ON. Constructive criticism is always good so if anyone has some useful advice on my work I'd appreciate that. Also if anyone would like me to link their blog on here let me know. I haven't quite figured out everything about how to use blogspot so once I figure out how to organize all my stuff on here it will probably look better.

Heres some artwork I've done over the last couple of years. Some of them are WIP's and I'll post the finished ones at some point. Mostly everything had ended up in Photoshop at some point.

Obviously had to do a Wolverine pic from Marvel Comics. Wolverine has always been one of my favourite superheroes since I was a kid. I drew this pic on a sketchpad and then scanned it in and coloured and tweaked it in Photoshop.

I've always been into video games, especially PC games by Blizzard Entertainment. Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft are my favourites and they've inspired alot of my work. This one is of an Undead Warlock from World of Warcraft. This one was done the same way as the Wolverine one with Photoshop.

This next one was done last year for a Light and Composition class. Both characters were roughly drawn and then scanned into Photoshop and coloured. Viking vs. Balrog.

This one is a work in progress and it's taking me awhile because I was doing each character individually. These are some of my favourite heroes and villians from the Marvel Universe. I'm trying to make it kind of like a war between them and I'll probably make the background all ripped up as a result of it. It's eventually gonna be completely filled with characters, so like I said it's going to take awhile. If you have any suggestions on whichever Marvel characters to throw in let me know.

This one is another WIP of a Terran Marine from the Blizzard Entertainment game called Starcraft. I also posted the original drawing which I did in the Toronto airport while waiting for a delayed flight hah.

And the original sketch...

These are my characters for my 3D Film that I just finished in my last year of Tradigital Animation. They are also influenced by Diablo / Warcraft and also by Lord of the Rings. I don't know, I just have a thing for epic medieval battles... This first guy is named Sigurd the Barbarian. Both characters were modelled/rigged/animated using Autodesk Maya 2009 and textured in Photoshop. These pics were done for a collaboration of all the student's characters put into a poster for the Tradigital Grad Screening where we get to watch all of our films.

This character is named Necrophisto the Undead Lord, he's kind of the star of the film.

Finally here are my final films I made for my 3D and 2D classes from the end of this year. The 3D one was made using Autodesk Maya 2009, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and composited in Adobe After Effects CS3, and Adobe Premiere Pro. My 2D Film was drawn entirely in ToonBoom Studio 4 and composited AE and Premiere. My good friend Brad Riddell and I made up a production company name for our films. It's called Shmucolate Productions and I used it in my films. I'll post more stuff and tutorials about my films and how I made them in the future. Enjoy.

Here's my 2D one called 'Read the Manual'
